Ninth Symposium on Cardiac Arrhythmias - Update 2008

Over 114 participants attended the 9th Annual Symposium on Cardiac Arrhythmias at the Houstonian.

Gerardo Kalife, MD Receives Physician-Nurse Collegiality Award.

          Nurses referred to his bedside manner and his obvious enthusiasm for cardiology. Dr. Kalife involves nursing staff in planning patient care. He was referred by the nursing team as "proving himself to have a lot of integrity and by being a genuinely great physician."

The Hall-Garcia Echocardiography Laboratory has as been accreditation by ICAEL

(Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories)
ICAEL is the only recognized accreditation organization for cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) laboratories in the US and was established by these sponsoring societies: American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography, Society of Pediactric Echocardiogrphy and Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Congratulations! Dr. Ali Massumi has met the UnitedHealth Premium Designation Program critera in Cardiology - Eletrophysiology. Not only did he meet the criteria but has earned two stars.

The UnitedHealth Premium designation program identifies physicians who follow evidence-based guidelines for quality of care.  Those doctors that meet the criteria for quality of care are assigned one star; if they also qualify for efficiency of care, they are assigned two stars.

Idiopathic Ventricular Fibrillation Successfully Terminated by Radiofrequency Ablation of the Distal Purkinje Fibers

   A 21-year-old woman was admitted for evaluation of recurrent episodes of syncope. She had several spontaneous and abrupt loss of consciousness episodes while at the emergency department, caused by sustained and nonsustained ventricular fibrillation episod.

Dr. Stainback was elected Treasurer of the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories at the annual Board of Directors meeting, Maui, Hawaii.

Drs. Ali Massumi and Abdi Rasekh have received the UnitedHealth Premium Quality and Efficiency of Care designation. This designation improves both quality and cost of care for the patient. For example, cardiac care at one of the newly designated specialty centers, averaged a savings of $3,500 per cardiac episode over other network hospitals in the geographic area. Drs Wilson, Strickman, Mathur, Navarijo, Heinle, Razavi and Kalife have each received the United Healthcare Premium Quality designation.
